This is the moment a drunk is whipped on his bottom for allegedly attacking his wife while she had their baby in her arms.

The incident took place near the city of Cajamarca in the northern Peruvian region of the same name after the man reportedly pushed over his wife while she was carrying their four-month-old baby and then beat up relatives coming to her defence.

In the footage, the ‘defendant’ is seen bent over a table as a community member administers several lashes to his bottom with a whip.

A community head is heard saying: “I hope this is the last time. Give up alcohol, it is easy.”

After the ‘sentence’ was carried out, the man is seen apologising to his family who watched the whipping.

According to reports, the man had been drinking excessively for several weeks despite his relatives’ concerns and complaints.

Several days before being whipped, he arrived home drunk and became embroiled in a row with his wife before pushing her over while she was carrying their baby, according to local media.

The boozer’s dad and sister came to defend the mother and infant after they heard them crying, and the suspect reportedly beat them up.

Local media said the family members decided to report him to the community leaders and he was publicly whipped as punishment.

Relatives and community heads now expect the man to stop drinking alcohol which they believe is the cause of his violent behaviour.

The people carrying out the punishment belong to the “rondas campesinas” (“peasant rounds”), who have permission from the local authorities to act as vigilantes and to use physical punishment if necessary.
