This is the moment a boozed up dad almost dies jumps off a bridge in front of his daughter who is in a canoe in the river below.

The footage was filmed on a bridge over the Northern Dvina river in northern Russia.

Local media said the dad had been drinking heavily, acting as if intoxicated and standing balanced on the outside of the bridge.

In the footage, one person can be heard saying “Hey this is your daughter” and “Why are you doing this? But the man clearly seems determined to jump and says “Yes this is my daughter” before he raises his hands in the air before grabbing the bridge again, but then he really does jump.

The footage shows him plunging into the river below and then floating almost lifelessly downstream in the fast flowing current.

Some people are filming and others are trying to urge him not to jump.

Although the bridge is usually reserved for vehicle traffic, it is currently closed for repairs alone pedestrians to cross over.

A spokesman for the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Olga Shkuratova, confirmed that the man is alive and is still in the hospital where he is currently in intensive care. His injuries included hypothermia, bruising to the chest and cuts on his arm.

She said the incident took place on 8th October in the late afternoon with a 41-year-old man, who was named only as Victor M., had jumped from the bridge.

The man who pulled him from the water said: “My children were swimming. I suddenly heard a scream and saw a man lying on the water. he had a bad cut on his hand and blood was flowing freely. But he wanted to jump again.”

He said the man was hospitalised because he lost a lot of blood from the cut, but nothing appeared to be broken and he believed he had simply been knocked out by the force of fitting water.

The daughter was also said to have been traumatised and needed medical treatment for shock treatment after watching her father jump. Her age and name was not revealed.
