This is the moment a drugged-up pregnant cow with a broken hoof is airlifted from a remote mountain region by helicopter without a blindfold.

Animals are often blindfolded when they are airlifted so as to keep them calm.

According to local media, the cow was grazing in the mountains near the village of Arans in the northern Andorran parish of Ordino for the summer season, but failed to return to its farmhouse with the rest of the herd due to a broken hoof.

The farming family realised the cow had not returned and found it in the mountain field, but they were unable to move it due to its injury.

They called the local authorities and stayed with the animal while waiting for its rescue.

The Andorra fire brigade emergency mountain rescue service sent a helicopter to airlift the cow to safety.

In the footage, the stocky animal is seen wearing a harness as it is airlifted from the mountainside by a rescue helicopter.

According to reports, the cow’s injury and fact that it was pregnant made the rescue operation more difficult.

Local media said the animal was sedated by a vet before being attached to a harness and airlifted to safety.

The animal is now back at the farm where it is being looked after by its owners.
