This is the 1.6-tonne haul of marijuana with the faces of Pablo Escobar and Osama Bin Laden daubed on the packaging after eagle-eyed Colombian police spotted and seized the lot.

The Colombian authorities have seized 1.6 tonnes of marijuana marked on the Caloto-Santander road in Quilichao, in the department of Cauca in southwestern Colombia and the packets had the faces of Osama Bin Laden and Pablo Escobar stuck onto them.

The packets were being transported in a hidden area inside the bodywork of a lorry which was carrying mattresses, according to the police.

In the photos, the packets bearing the faces of former Colombian drug lord Escobar and former Al-Qaeda leader Bin Laden can be seen laid out on the ground.

Fabio Alexander Rojas Garcia, the Commander of the police of Cauca, said that the driver, identified as Humberto Caicedo Vargas, 30, had been arrested and will be charged with drug trafficking, fabrication and drug possession.

Garcia said: “The drug trafficking organisations usually put their emblem or stamp to index them or commercialise it. It is a way of guaranteeing the quality of the drug.”

Colombian police have seized 332.5 tonnes of cocaine and 303.5 tonnes of marijuana as well as destroying 5,072 drug production facilities since August 2018.

Police have seized more than 22 tonnes of marijuana in the department of Cauca alone this year.
