This is the moment a woman not wearing a face mask who is about to climb on a bus turns around and leaves again after the driver points a handheld thermometer at her which she seemingly confuses for a gun.

The incident took place in the city of Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in South China, as the middle-aged commuter prepared to step onto the arriving bus.

The bus’s onboard CCTV camera shows the female passenger failing to wear a mask to stop her spreading or catching the coronavirus as she steps onto the bus on 27th January.

Apparently following a new screening policy, the driver picks up his digital thermometer and raises it at the woman in order to take her temperature.

Fevers are an early symptom of the mysterious pneumonia-like respiratory disease.

But the commuter spots the thermometer, which is being pointed at her like a gun, and immediately stops and turns around.

She climbs off the bus and refuses to get back on the vehicle again, having reportedly been frightened off by the driver’s gesture.

Wearing surgical masks in public spaces has become compulsory in some major Chinese provinces and cities as health officials seek to stop the spread of the virus now responsible for 213 deaths and nearly 10,000 cases in mainland China.

On 30th January, the World Health Organization convened to declare the novel coronavirus a global health emergency.
