This is the moment a reported hotel owner ploughs his car into a busy market before trying to set the petrol tank on fire and punching a woman in the face.

Local media report the hotel owner carried out the shocking attack because he thought the noise from the market was affecting his business.

They are pushed into a shop at the busy market as the man climbs out his vehicle and opens his petrol cap in an alleged bid to set it ablaze.

However, when that fails, he runs to a nearby cart and appears to attempt to light the fabric on fire instead.

In the video, a brave woman steps up to try stop him but is punched in the face by the suspect, who is then subdued by a large crowd of people.

Authorities with the Xilu police station are said to have intervened, with the driver believed to be in custody.

It is understood that a number of people, including two pregnant women, were injured during the incident, but their exact conditions are currently unclear.

Shopkeepers working inside the market have identified the suspect to local media as a nearby hotel owner, who felt the loud noises from the market were affecting his business.

Further investigations are ongoing.
