This is the moment a driver, apparently distracted by his dog in the passenger seat, reverses his SUV into a toddler sending the boy crashing through a glass door.

The accident happened in the city of Hohhot, capital of China’s northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

According to reports, the male motorist, whose name has not been disclosed, had been moving house and wanted to reverse onto the steps in front of a residential building for convenience.

CCTV video shows him back his white SUV up the concrete steps when his attention is caught by the pet dog in the front passenger seat.

He can be seen looking at the pooch when the two-year-old toddler walks out of the building behind his car.

The driver does not realise the boy is there and reverses right into him, pushing him right through the glass door.

The child father storms out of the building shortly after and begins remonstrating with the driver.

Reports said the boy was fortunately not seriously injured, and was taken to hospital for a check-up.

It is unclear whether the driver was punished over the accident.
