Drink Driving Woman Hits Gran With Car Before Dragging North Carolina Cop Down Street

This woman hit her grandmother with her car while drunk behind the wheel before dragging a police officer down the street who has been seriously injured as a result, according to the North Carolina police.

The incident took place on the 800 block of Beuer Drive in the city of Fayetteville, which is located in the south-eastern US state of North Carolina, at around 8pm on 12th October.

The Fayetteville Police Department (FPD) released images showing the suspect and the scene of the incident along with a statement which named the woman as a black female called Chante Roshell Oates, 24.

The FPD said that after arresting the suspect, they charged her with “Assault With a Deadly Weapon on a Government Official, Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer Inflicting Serious Injury, Felony Hit and Run (2 counts), Assault With a Deadly Weapon, Resisting a Public Officer, Injury to Personal Property, Driving While Impaired, and Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest”.

They also said that Oates remains detained at the “Cumberland County Detention Center under a USD 153,500 secured bond” following her arrest.

The injured police officer, a woman who has not been named, is suffering from multiple injuries after she was “struck and dragged by the suspect’s vehicle”, while a second victim was also hit “by the offender’s vehicle prior to police arrival”.

The police said that “the elderly female victim sustained minor injuries” but her life is not thought to be in danger.

The cops explained that they were dispatched after a hit-and-run was reported to them in connection with a vehicle “colliding with a residence”, but when they arrived the vehicle was nowhere to be seen.

While they were on the scene investigating, the police said that the suspect vehicle returned to the location of the hit-and-run.

They said the female police officer was hit by the car when she attempted to confront the suspect.

She was then dragged down the road by the suspect’s vehicle, the police said.

The injured police officer was taken to hospital by medics responding to the incident.

Other police officers then located the suspect and attempted to arrest her during a traffic stop.

They then pursued the suspect until they finally managed to apprehend her “in downtown Fayetteville”.

The investigation into the matter is being handled by the Fayetteville Police Department’s Aggravated Assault Unit.

The police have not yet disclosed how they determined that the suspect was drunk behind the wheel.

The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
