This is the rescue by boat of a teenage girl who had fallen into the choppy waters of a river from a bridge with the coastguard speeding out to sea to save her and bring her back to shore.

The 16-year-old girl, whose name has not been revealed, had fallen from the General Mosconi Bridge into the River Grande, in the city of Rio Grande in the province of Tierra de Fuego, southern Argentina.

Members of the Prefectura Naval Argentina (Argentine Naval Prefecture) received a call from the emergency services saying that there was a girl drowning in the river after she fell from the bridge for reasons unknown.

A boat and professional swimmers were used in the rescue operation and the victim was spotted around 300 metres from the bridge.

In the video, rescuers can be seen speeding towards the girl before dragging her through the water with a life ring.

The teenager is pulled into the boat before she is given first aid by the rescuers.

The girl was taken to the regional Rio Grande hospital where she is recovering from issues with hypothermia and water in her lungs.

Local media reported the Argentine Naval Prefecture rescued a man who had fallen from the same bridge at the end of September this year. He was taken to the regional hospital where he was diagnosed with hypothermia.
