A wealthy businessman – seen here filming backwards as his boat speeds forwards – died and three others were injured when they crashed into a pillar under a bridge.
The incident took place in bay waters around Vila Velha, Espirito Santo State, south-eastern Brazil on 1st November.
The deceased victim was identified as Eduardo Maia – known to his friends as ‘Dudu Ninja’. He worked as a mechanic and owned a boat repair shop in Rio de Janeiro.
The speedboat involved in the accident was his and was normally anchored in a marina in Cariacica, which borders Vila Velha.
Friends told local media that Eduardo lived in Rio de Janeiro but went to Espirito Santo once a month.
This footage was reportedly taken by him shortly before the accident took place and shows how he filmed the back of his boat, taking his eyes off the route ahead.
He is known to have been piloting the speedboat at the time. An inquiry will work to establish the cause of the accident.
The damaged vessel – seen here with a chunk missing from its bow – will be analysed and the survivors will be interviewed as part of the investigation.
The Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Navy will then decide whether to press charges.
