Kindhearted students have rescued a hapless dog that took a pee on the street in minus-17-degree-Celsius temperatures and ended up trapping its furry bum to the ground as its urine froze.

The incident took place near the Chengde Medical College in the city of Chengde in the north-eastern Chinese province of Hebei when students noticed the poor pooch.

Several realised the pooch was surprisingly still, and several kindhearted teens then noticed a frozen pond of urine around the dog’s bottom and realised that it had become stuck during the cold snap where temperatures plunged as low as minus 17 degrees Celsius.

A female student told local media: “We thought the dog was meditating because it turned its head from left to right, but its bum remained fixed to the ground. Eventually, we realised its bottom was frozen on the tarmac.”

The students poured warm water around the dog’s behind to melt the frozen urine before awarding the pooch with a slap-up feast, according to reports.

Netizen ‘Tixingwo’ commented: “So that is why we should not relieve ourselves in public places.”

‘Shilianjicun’ said: “The dog looks really unhappy, but I can’t help laughing. Well done to those students!”

PETA Asia press officer Keith Guo told Asia Wire: “The patient and determined efforts of the Chengde Medical College students likely prevented this dog from severe damage. PETA encourages everyone to draw inspiration from this incident and come to the aid of any animal in need.”
