This adorable dog named Chewy has returned to its home in the UK after nearly becoming stranded in Mexico when it lost its European pet passport while on holiday.

The cute Shih Tzu was in the town of Tepoztlan in the Mexican state of Morelos with its owners Karen Denise Gonzalez and Karan Lund while on holiday in the country.

The pictures show some of the adorable snaps the owners posted as Chewy poses in front of the beautiful Mexican landscape.

However, the owners later had a real scare when they realised they lost their European pet passport which meant they wouldn’t be allowed to return to the UK with Chewy.

They contacted the British embassy in Mexico for help which managed to retrieve the pet passport and get the canine back home safely.

British Ambassador Corin Robertson issued a Tweet announcing the good news on 9th February. She said: “Our consulate team doesn’t only support British citizens.

“Today, thanks to the help from our team at press and communication as well as @SRE_MX [Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs], Chewie(sic) was able to recuperate its passport to return to the United Kingdom. Have a good flight!”

Lund thanked the ambassador and “the person who found it [the passport] and took the time to communicate with the embassy to help him return home. Many thanks”.
