This cute dog has sadly died after a lit firecracker was inserted in its backside causing fatal injuries that left it in agony for four days before it finally succumbed.
The incident took place on the outskirts of the city of Osijek in the eastern Croatian region of Slavonia when the unidentified culprit placed a lit firecracker in the dog’s anus two days before New Year’s Eve.
In a press statement sent to Central European News (CEN), the local animal rights group ‘Prijatelji Zivotinja’ (‘Friends of the Animals’) said that Kiro the dog had suffered for four days before succumbing to his horrific injuries despite the vets’ best efforts.
They also confirmed that the dog’s injuries were caused by a category F2 or F3 firework inserted in the animal’s anus.
The statement said: “The animal rights group Prijatelji Zivotinja appeals to the public to report all incidents of animal abuse, torture and negligence.”
Meanwhile, the local authorities have confirmed that they are still trying to track down those responsible.
The investigation is ongoing.
