Russian doctors have removed this giant hairball from a woman’s abdomen.

The woman, 30, whose name is not reported, had been suffering from pain in her lower abdomen and decided to address her health concerns with specialists from the perianal centre in the city of Kolomna, just 114 kilometres (71 miles) outside the Russian capital Moscow.

She then underwent tests which showed she had a massive dermoid cyst in her stomach, said to be the same size as a large coconut in reports.

Tatiana Shavrak, who is the head of the centre, said: “Dermoid cyst is a benign neoplasm in the ovary. The capsule of the cyst has thick walls and contains a mucus-like mass with different tissues of the body.”

Shavrak noted that there was a risk that there might be epidermis, adipose tissue, sebaceous glands, hair, bones, and even teeth inside this cyst, so the only way forward was a surgical removal.

Doctors managed to successfully remove the neoplasms through small incisions during the operation.

There are no updates on the woman’s condition but Shavrak has stressed that stories like the one of this woman are examples of why it is important to get regular check-ups.

Kolomna was founded in 1140 and still retains some elements of an ancient city, including a kremlin that is similar to that found in Moscow.
