Docs Pull 2-Wk Wriggling Leech From Patients Nostrils

This is the moment a doctor pulls a wriggling leech from a young man’s nostril after he unwittingly hosted the parasite in his nose for two weeks.

The 24-year-old patient, whose name has not been given, sought out experts at Sanhe Hospital in the city of Huizhou, in South China’s Guangdong Province, after suffering repeatedly nosebleeds for half a month.

Ear, nose and throat specialist Wang Yanfeng listened to the patient explained his symptoms and suspected he had a leech living in his nasal cavity.

His suspicions were confirmed when he shone a torch up the man’s nose and discovered the 3.15-inch parasite wriggling furiously away from the light source, the medic said.

Doctor Wang extracted the lively leech using a pair of tweezers after spraying it with anaesthetics.

Video from the simple procedure shows the parasite trying to wriggle free as it is finally removed from its host.

According to the hospital, the patient later revealed he had drunk water from a river while Hong m hiking with friends two weeks ago.

Doctor Wang suspected her accidentally inhaled the leech larva into his nose, and the young parasite spent two weeks growing fat while feeding on his blood.

The patient is expected to make a full recovery.
