This is the moment a doctor discovers a live spider inside a teenage boy’s ear after the young patient was taken to hospital complaining of a constant itch.

The 15-year-old, whose name has not been given, was accompanied by his father, Mr Wang, who said he did not know how the small animal found its way into his son’s left ear canal.

At Nanchang Boda Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, which is in East China’s Jiangxi Province, Doctor Mo Zhifeng found the cause of his discomfort during an inspection of the child’s ear.

Footage of the otoscopy shows Doctor Mo’s nurse saying: “A spider! It’s moving.”

The small critter had taken shelter in the teenager’s ear and would prove difficult to remove without damaging the child’s eardrum.

The medic therefore decided to kill it using ear drops.

Doctor Mo said: “We dripped vitamin A and D into his ear canal in order to drown the spider.

“It was much easier to remove it after it had died.

“Further examinations showed no significant damage to the boy’s ear. His eardrum and ear canal were both intact.

“Had we not dealt with it in time, the spider could’ve bitten his eardrum.”

While it is unclear why the spider chose to live in the teen’s warm and moist ear, the medic said it was important for patients to seek immediate medical attention.

Doctor Mo also suggested drowning ear invaders with vegetable oil instead of trying to force them out using ear picks or cotton buds.
