A toddler has died in front of her horrified parents as their packed trolley flipped over at a DIY warehouse.
The 13-month-old girl was taken on a shopping trip to a Hornbach DIY megastore in Garbsen, a town northeast of Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany, on Saturday, 3rd December.
The girl was crushed to death when the family’s shopping trolley laden with plasterboard and other items suddenly flipped over for unknown reasons and landed on her.
Her mum and dad, as well as other customers and employees, were forced to watch on as first responders were fighting for the child’s life.
The girl was airlifted to a clinic, where she eventually died. The injury that caused her death has not been revealed.
A team of psychologists had to counsel the devastated couple – whose identity has been withheld due to strict local privacy laws – and several other witnesses.
Lower Saxon police are investigating the incident. It has not yet been decided whether an autopsy will be carried out.
