Dismembered Remains Of Former MLS Player Found

The dismembered remains of this former MLS player have been found in a bag near a river in Colombia.

The bag containing the remains of two people was found near the Medellin River located in the Antioquia department in Colombia on 27th February but were identified yesterday (Thursday).

One of the victims was identified as former Independiente Medellin defender Juan Diego Gonzalez, 39, however, there is reportedly still one person to be identified from the remains found in the bag.

Valle de Aburra Metropolitan Police subcommander Colonel Omar Rodriguez told local media: “We were informed about dismembered bodies.

“When the police arrived they studied the case along with the prosecution and CTI (Technical Investigations Corp).

“Both bodies were transported to forensics, one of them was of the ex-football player Juan Diego Gonzalez Alzate.”

Rodriguez went on the say the police “had no knowledge of threats or accusations” against the footballer but they “are advancing in our investigations to clear up the facts.”

Local media report despite there being no official versions of the incidents authorities are considering the possibility the murder had something to do with the settling of scores.

Gonzalez played for several top-flight Colombian clubs such as Independiente Medellin, Independiente Santa Fe and CD La Equidad.

He also had short stints in the Argentine and Mexican top-tiers before making a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States where he played for Philadelphia Union before retiring.
