This picture shows a diner who left his coronavirus mask on a jar of unused chopsticks in a restaurant while using his phone and enjoying a meal and it has sparked widespread condemnation.

The picture was shot at a Japanese restaurant in Hong Kong where it even prompted an apology from the owners of the restaurant over the man’s behaviour.

He can be clearly seen eating food when using his mobile phone and his green surgical mask is on top of a pile of unused chopsticks.

The Ca-Tu-Ya restaurant in Yau Ma Tei which is in the Kowloon peninsula of Hong Kong said it was shocked and apologised for the behaviour of its guest.

They emphasised however that the man involved was not a member of staff, as some online commentators had claimed, but admitted staff should have noticed the man’s shocking behaviour themselves and acted quicker.

This is that in future, they would be providing paperbacks for people to put unused facemasks in when having their food. There will also be handing out the eating utensils individually rather than leaving it on the table.

The restaurant specialises in Japanese tonkatsu which is deep-fried breaded pork and added that they felt it necessary to make an apology after a thorough review of what happened.

Many people slammed the man’s behaviour as “selfish” and “appalling” with others however saying they would boycott the restaurant for failing to spot and tackle the matter.
