Atena was together with two other students, Hadieh Pourreza and Mobina Isazadeh when all three were arrested in Revolution Square in Lahijan, and reportedly taken to Lakan Prison in Rasht.

The schoolgirl who is studying accountancy at Sheikh Fazlullah Nouri Lahijan School was arrested on the same night when 23-year-old Irfan Zamani was shot dead by security agents when they opened fire on protesters in Lahijan on 3rd November.

The family have not heard from her since and have to deal with a double tragedy as her sister Mona Farahmand was shot and injured at the same protest and ended up in hospital.

She is married and the mother of a three-year-old child and despite her wounds, security officials have ordered her in for questioning.

Her family say that Mona was not involved in any protest action and is worried that if she is forced to turn up she will be arrested.

The mother said that she raised the girls alone after her husband who was their father died 10 years ago from cancer.

Like the 15-year-old many other schoolchildren have been arrested and accused of being involved in the nationwide wave of protests that have swept the country after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini who was arrested by Tehran’s morality police.
