These are the pieces of jewellery made out of new mothers’ breast milk – including from UK mums – which have been released onto the market.

The new collection named the ‘Mother’s Milk Collection’ comes from Polish designer Marta Ewa Rzanek who runs the 4 Seasons Jewelry firm in the city of Lodz in central Poland.

The collection uses “a special conservation and consolidation process” for typically 25 millimetres of breast milk combined with resin for jewellery to create necklaces or bracelets.

The stones made from the milk are reportedly smooth and tough. Rzanek said the stones take on room temperature and will not crack if dropped but are at risk of turning yellow if left in direct sunlight for a long period of time.

Rzanek says all the stones are slightly different colours depending on the mothers, adding that one stone turned green because of the mother’s medication.

The pieces are designed to capture the special time a new mother spends with their baby and breastfeeding them.

The designer says orders have come from the United Kingdom and Germany with milk usually being sent by post.

She has made engagement rings with mothers’ milk and says in general the reaction to her collection is “very positive”.

The idea for the collection first came in 2015 when one of the designer’s friends asked for a ring when she was a young mother and she thought about making special moments from early motherhood immortal.

The prices for milk-based jewellery ranges on the designer’s website from 120 – 560 PLN (25 – 114 GBP).
