The accident reportedly took place in the city of Palm Coast, Florida, USA, at around 3.00am on 12th February.

The images were obtained by Newsflash from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), along with a statement according to which deputies and fire rescuers were dispatched after receiving a call about a vehicle crash with injuries in front of the Tom Gibbs Chevrolet dealership.

Upon arrival, deputies reportedly located a severely damaged grey sedan that had crashed after rear-ending a semi-truck.

The forceful impact had caused the sedan to catch fire.

Rescuers found the passenger laying on the ground outside the car while the driver remained trapped in his seat.

Body-worn footage shows the moment they cut through the seatbelt with a small knife as they fight against time to free the man.

Nearby witnesses also jump in to aid the rescue.

Seconds later, the bloodied driver gets pulled out of the flaming car, letting out muffled yelps of pain as he is apparently barely able to stand.

FCSO Corporal Barnett reportedly utilised his agency-issued fire extinguisher in an attempt to reduce the flames that had begun to billow out of the sedan.

Soon after the rescue occurred, FCFR arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames and take over the treatment of the patients.

Both occupants were reportedly transported to a local hospital.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in a statement obtained by Newsflash: “I commend our deputies and the citizens that assisted and likely saved the driver’s life.

“Working as a team and using a fire extinguisher to slow the spread of the fire and forcing the door open they were able to gain access to the driver before the vehicle was engulfed in flames.”

The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash.
