Video of a lone wolf walking for hours on end along the same tiny figure of eight route has gone viral.

Many people commented that the wolf appeared to be psychologically disturbed or possibly stuck in a crowded cage, however, staff at the Linquan County Magic Zoo in the city of Fuyang in north-western China’s Anhui province said this was not the case.

The zoo officials insist that there is nothing unusual in the animal’s behaviour, and say that the recently introduced wolf had failed to integrate with any of the other three wolf packs that they have in a 26,000 metres squared enclosure set aside for the animals.

They said that as a result of being a lone wolf, it was probably a bit depressed, and was working off the depression by walking on the same route every day.

The official said that they hoped that the young wolf would soon be accepted into one of the other wolf packs, and then it would probably stop pacing around.

Online commentators like the user Sonni said: “In the wild, it would be able to get away and find a new place of its own, but here it’s forced to travel on an endless road to nowhere.”

The park itself covers 300 metres squared and includes around 200 different types of animals from different regions of the world, and various attractions including a rhinoceros museum, elephant hall and swan lake to mention but a few.
