This footage shows static animals appearing depressed in their cramped cages at a Thai zoo that is considered one of the world’s saddest places.

The video was filmed at Pata Zoo, a small private zoo on the 6th and 7th floors of the Pata Pinklao Department Store in the district of Bang Phlat located in the central Thai capital Bangkok.

The footage, released by the animal rights group PETA Asia, shows the zoo primates appearing depressed and lethargic in their cramped cages.

PETA Asia called the shopping centre zoo one of the saddest places in the world.

Gorilla Bua Noi has reportedly been caged at the small zoo its entire life since 1983.

PETA vice president Jason Baker said: “Every company leasing space at the Pata Department Store knows that the animals at Pata Zoo are left to languish inside small, dark cages and denied everything that’s natural and important to them – and their stores are helping to fund this cruelty.

“PETA is urging shoppers and the establishments at Pata Department Store to demand that this horrific animal prison be shut down immediately.”

PETA has been reporting on the private zoo since 2012, but claim that nothing has changed in all that time.

Last November, PETA activists covered in brightly-coloured body paint protested against the zoo and offered to transfer all the animals to a sanctuary where they would have trees to climb, grass to roll on, and other animals to integrate with.

However, the unnamed owner of the shopping centre and zoo reportedly ignored the group’s offer.
