This is the moment a takeaway delivery man kicks an elderly woman and breaks a bone in her spine when a set of lift doors close on him and he blames her.

The shocking incident happened inside a residential building in Guangzhou’s Haizhu District in South China’s Guangdong Province on 16th March.

CCTV footage from the lift car shows the pensioner, surnamed Deng, aged 71, already standing inside when the delivery man, surnamed Zhang, enters.

The automatic doors close on him but open again as he squeezes in.

Deng claims the man working for food delivery giant Meituan Waimai thought she had purposely shut the doors on him.

She recalled: “He started swearing at me as soon as he stepped in the car.

“I said: ‘Why are you swearing at me?’

“He said: ‘What are you going to do? I’ll beat you to death.’”

The video shows Deng reaching her floor and getting out, but the pair continue to quarrel until Zhang exits the lift and slaps the pensioner in the face.

As the pair tussle, Zhang then extends his right leg and kicks Deng in the midriff, sending her reeling backwards and falling onto the floor, security footage shows.

Zhang was later detained by police, while Deng was hospitalised with a fracture in her 12th thoracic vertebra.

Meituan have given the pensioner 45,000 RMB (5,120 GBP) in damages to cover her medical costs and said they had ended their partnership with the takeway driver.

However, the company said it would not help the woman pursue further legal action against their ex-employee.

It is unclear whether Deng will make a full recovery.
