Four people have died and at least two dozens have been injured after a massive fire ripped through a multi-storey residential block.
The deadly blaze has left at least six others suffering from critical injuries, according to authorities in Chengdu’s Wuhou District in China’s south-western Sichuan Province.
Viral short footage circulating on China’s Twitter-like microblogging service Sina Weibo shows members of the fire service parked on Jialing Road next to the burning building, with huge plumes of black smoke rising into the sky.
The authorities tackled the blaze while dozens of residents were evacuated following the start of the fire at roughly 7:30pm local time on 6th March.
A statement by the district government said 28 people had been taken to hospital as of 2:40am the following morning.
Four victims died of their injuries at West China Hospital, Sichuan University, while six others were still being treated as critical.
The remaining 18 sustained minor injuries during the fire that had spread quickly through the tower block.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
