Accused Amir Mohammad Ahmadi and Astiyaj Haghighi were each given 10 and a half years behind bars by the 15th branch of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Court.

This was after they were convicted of ‘encouraging corruption and prostitution’ and ‘proselytising against the regime’.

They were seized by plainclothes officers on 1st November after posting this video of themselves sharing a tender dance in Tehran’s famous Azadi Square.

The video shows the couple dancing intimately and Astiyaj’s long hair is uncovered.

Now her father has revealed the full brutality of their arrests, telling independent media that up to 12 officers broke down their front door.

They beat the pair so violently, he said, the floor was left covered in blood, before an officer ordered them to take off their pyjamas and change clothes.

And when they tried to resist, he said, the officer asked them: “When so many people see you on Instagram, what’s wrong with it?”

Later in court, Iran’s notorious ‘Hanging Judge’ Abolqasem Salavati said Astiyaj’s actions were akin to “prostitution”.

In addition to their prison sentences, he banned the couple from leaving Iran and from using social networks for two years.

Pro-government media in Iran said the couple used their social media pages to call people onto the streets to protest.

The condemned pair – born in 2001 and 2002 respectively – must serve at least five years of their sentences.

Astiyaj is reportedly being held in grim Qarchak Prison, which was once a livestock farm.

It is located in the middle of the desert and is said to lack clean air and water.
