A dad has been left devastated after he accidentally crushed his four-year-old son to death while parking his van.

The distraught father had failed to notice that the young boy had not gone inside with his wife and the other child after a trip in the vehicle and had run him over as he was manoeuvring it into position to leave it for the night.

The incident took place in Kabalakli, which is a village in the Turkish province of Zonguldak, in the Black Sea region.

The victim, who has been named only as Omer T., aged 4, by local media was crushed to death when his dad was manoeuvring his van to park it.

The family of four – the names of Omer’s mother and sibling have not been reported – had just returned from the city but the dad did not notice that his four-year-old son had not entered the house once they arrived home.

Instead, he appears to have stayed behind to wait for his dad.

A medical team was sent to the scene but could only note that the child had died.

The lifeless body of the young boy was taken to the morgue of Zonguldak Ataturk State Hospital after the authorities investigated the scene of the incident, according to DHA.

The Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor has launched an investigation into the death of Omer, and have questioned the dad identified only as Ergun T., whose age was not reported.
