This is the moment a cyclist survives after being buried underneath shattering glass falling off the back of a passing articulated lorry.

Electric bicycle rider Mr Chu is not in any life-threatening condition following the dramatic accident in the city of Zhangjiagang in East China’s Jiangsu Province on 3rd December, local police reported.

Traffic camera footage shows Mr Chu making a left turn into the junction between Wukesong Road and 202 County Road but failing to check for oncoming traffic.

Heavy goods vehicle driver Mr He, who is hauling a shipment of a large glass panes on his trailer, cannot brake in time and swerves to avoid the electric bike.

But the otherwise life-saving manoeuvre causes the heavy glass pane cargo to tip to one side, snapping the safety rope which had been holding them in place.

The panes of glass fall right on top of Mr Chu, shattering on him and burying the cyclist in a mountain of shards.

Local authorities said Mr Chu was found alive and conscious but pinned in the pile of sharp glass, which caused numerous lacerations on his back.

He was taken to hospital and continues to receive treatment for what police say are non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is still being investigated, with no arrests made thus far.
