This is the moment a cute jaguar cub, rejected by its mum just days after birth, is treated like royalty before it is filmed exploring and frolicking around its new home.

The tiny jaguar cub, a female, was born weighing just 500 grams (1.1 lbs) at the zoo park of Altiplano in the state of Tlaxcala, in central Mexico.

Visitors had gathered to see the official presentation of the cub and in the video the animal can be seen being brought out to the public in a wooden cage by four men in traditional pre-Hispanic dress.

The cute cub can then be seen running around its enclosure and playing with the zookeepers.

The inquisitive cub, just 15 centimetres (six inches) tall at birth, was born as part of a breeding program in the zoo.

The mother’s gestation period was 110 days and vets celebrated the fact she had accepted the cub and she fed the youngster for at least 10 days so that the new cub had the essential nutrients to guarantee her survival.

After the first 10 days, the cub was rejected by the mother but as she had received all the nutrients from her mother she is healthy.

According to local media, the cub’s diet is being controlled by vets and she is being fed with chicken and milk.

The zoo currently has five big cats born in captivity, the first one was a white lion called Xonotli and three other white lions named Iztaxochitl, Tlayolot and Nieve.
