This is the moment a cute capuchin monkey is rescued from a box in a luxury car along with two toucans.

The operation to rescue the gracile capuchin monkey and two toucans was carried out in the district of Venustiano Carranza, in Mexico City, the Mexican capital and saw two men arrested.

The men were travelling in a luxury sports car and during a checkpoint that was part of Operation Rubik, the police officers checked the vehicle after hearing from some noises coming from bags in the vehicle.

When the officers opened the bags, they found two toucans and the monkey. The suspects did not reportedly have any documentation that legally allowed them to be in possession of the animals.

In the video, the cute monkey can be seen in a cardboard box while the toucans are on the back seat of the vehicle, the make and model of which have not been identified.

The two suspects are then put in the back of a patrol car and marched into a police station.

The two men were arrested and sent to the prosecution for charges to be determined. According to local media, the animals are in danger of going extinct.

Gracile capuchin monkeys have a wide range over Central America and north and north-west South America.

Toucans are native to Southern Mexico, Central America, South America south to northern Argentina. It is currently unclear why the animals were in the car.
