These are the horrific burns marks on the body of a 21-year-old maid allegedly caused when her employer poured boiling water on her as punishment for losing a pair of scissors.

The startling incident occurred in the regency of Gianyar on the island of Bali Island in Southern Indonesia.

Local media report that domestic worker Eka Febriyanti, 21, says her employer Desak Made Wiratningsing had asked that she find some scissors for her.

Eka says she had searched the whole house but could not find the scissors, adding that as a result she had to “receive a punishment”.

She says Wiratningsing then filled a large pan with boiling water and poured it over her before the home’s security guard, as well as Wiratningsing’s stepsister, did the same.

Eka then reportedly escaped and stayed with a friend but she was not treated for her burns for around week.

She then reported the case to the police and was taken to a police hospital. In the images, her back and the backs of her arms can be seen covered in severe burns, with the skin having been ripped off in huge patches.

Her thighs are also severely burnt and she has bandages covering her chest. Police reports were filed against Wiratningsing, her stepsister and the guard.

Eka’s lawyer, named in reports as Supriyono, says she had been working in the home for over six months but had not received payment.

It is unclear if any arrests have been made and the case is ongoing.
