This is the shocking moment a childcare worker repeatedly slaps a three-year-old girl around the face because she showed up to class late, leading to the woman’s suspension amid an ongoing investigation.

The incident took place at an Anganwadi, a rural childcare centre in India, in the area of Sajjivala near the village of Gundur in the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

The Karnataka Child and Women Welfare Department (KCWWD) has confirmed that they have launched an internal probe into the unnamed assistant’s conduct after the video was widely circulated on social media.

Reports said that locals have complained about the assistant’s behaviour in the past.

In the footage, she is seen repeatedly slapping a young tot’s face who bawls and appears panicked by the situation.

Local media said the three-year-old was punished in such a way because she arrived late to class.

A villager who filmed the incident also said that the girl was having difficulty with the alphabet and the assistant teacher was angered by her lack of understanding.

Local residents also claimed that they have warned the worker about her excessive force on several occasions, but she always refused to take their advice.

According to reports, the young girl will undergo counselling after the alleged abuse.

A KCWWD spokesperson called the employee’s actions “unwarranted” and announced that they will suspend the woman as the internal investigation continues.
