This is the moment a cruel babysitter is secretly filmed slapping a nine-month-old baby’s head leading to her arrest.

The incident was filmed by a secret camera at the family home in the city of Barranquilla in the northern Colombian department of Atlantico and was posted on Facebook where it has been widely circulated.

In the footage, the babysitter is seen sitting on the floor as the nine-month-old infant supports himself on the sofa.

For no apparent reason, she whacks the back of the baby’s head which rocks forwards causing the boy to start crying as she threatens to hit him again.

Local media said that the parents suspected the babysitter, identified as Lissebeth Patricia Diaz, of abusing the baby after finding marks on his body.

The couple reportedly set up hidden cameras to film the carer while they were at work.

According to police spokesman Cristian Escobar, “thanks to the CCTV cameras the family had in the house, there is evidence of abuse against the child”.

The footage led to Diaz’s arrest, however she was promptly released on bail by a judge who did not consider her to be a danger to society, according to reports.

Meanwhile, she has been served with a restraining order to not approach the family as the investigation continues.
