These images show how a whole house went up in flames and was turned to ashes after an angry son had an argument with his parents and “went crazy”, setting their home ablaze in a furious rage.

The incident took place in Autreville, a commune in the department of Aisne in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France.

According to a witness, unnamed in reports but who lives in the house next door, their neighbour came running out of the house saying: “My son has gone crazy, he wants to set fire to the garage.”

The suspect, who has since been detained, has not been named but is said to be in his 30s.

Local media report that at least 20 firefighters were needed to put out the fire and that it almost completely gutted the house, in the incident which took place on Sunday 2nd August.

A firefighter spokesperson named in local French newspaper Aisne Nouvelle as Lieutenant Renaux said: “When we arrived, we saw the house was burning down, and that it was spreading to the next house. There was also a car with a damaged tank, which gave us a lot of problems. Flames were coming towards the hedge and our vehicle.”

The neighbour who lives in the house next door is quoted in the same newspaper as saying: “We were eating. I heard the neighbours arguing. I went out a first time, then a second time and then the neighbour said to me: ‘Quick, my son has gone completely crazy, he wants to set the garage on fire.’ I called the fire department and took my seven-year-old grandson and put him beyond the gate.”

Police were present on the scene and arrested the son.

The local newspaper indicates that a fundraiser has been set up on leetchi for the parents of the suspect. The leetchi page names them as Mr and Mrs Haufman. At the time of writing, it had raised 260 EUR (234 GBP).
