These moving scenes show the hard work and dedication of medics in an ICU at an Italian hospital during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The video was filmed by workers of the Sestri Levante Hospital in the north-western Italian province of Genoa and was shared on the regional health board’s website with the title “a race against time”.

According to reports, the scenes show medics treating COVID-19 patients while dealing with the day-to-day stresses of the ongoing epidemic.

Health board spokesperson Bruna Rebagliati said: “This video is an example of what’s taking place in health centres around the world. It invokes emotion and demonstrates the extraordinary dedication of health workers who are the last barrier in the fight against the virus.

“They are professionals with undeniable value, nonstop workers who care about the needs of others and are always ready to sacrifice themselves.”

Rebagliati added: “I thank all health workers and administrative and technical staff for their huge sacrifice. Every one of them is committed to helping the health system.

She also asked citizens to stay at home and avoid “the invisible enemy”.

According to the latest figures from the Johns Hopkins University, Italy has registered 135,586 cases of COVID-19, 17,127 deaths and 24,392 recoveries.
