Business owners in Ibiza have launched a campaign to extend the summer tourist season to November in a bid to boost the economy following the COVID-19 outbreak.

The peak season in the Spanish region of the Balearic Islands usually starts in May and local businesses have launched the ‘MoveYourSpring’ campaign in a bed to extend the season until November.

According to reports, several key events have already been confirmed for October and businesses hope that the summer season, which normally finishes in September, will be extended.

The ‘MoveYourSpring’ campaign has been accompanied with the advertisement slogan: “In Ibiza, autumn is the new spring.”

The initiative has been launched around 40 days before peak season starts in May.

The advert says: “Ibiza is an island to enjoy, have fun and relax. As this is not likely to happen this spring, we’ve decided to move it to autumn.

“Change your reservation free of charge from spring to autumn and discover the island you deserve.”

According to local media, Rosa Ana Morrillo, Agency for Tourism of the Balearic Islands (ATB), called on business owners to react to the economic crisis caused by the COVID-19 outbreak to save the holiday season.

The tourism industry in Ibiza reportedly provides around 35 percent of all jobs on the island.
