A Danish farming couple have named their four sons after makes of tractors that all begin with the letter C.
The decision came after the couple, who both work in agriculture, were unable to agree on a name, which in Denmark is limited anyway because under the country’s Law on Personal Names, first names are picked from a list of approved names. There are 18,000 female names, and 15,000 male names to choose from.
Christoffer and Camilla Ellesoes from the Danish town of Torrild said that they wanted their children to have names that started with the letter C like their own, and when the first child was born, they decided to use a tractor name as it was on the list.
According to reports, they named their first son Case like the agricultural equipment firm Case IH.
Camilla said: “It started with us having to find a name that started with C, but we did not think the names were that interesting. Then my husband suggested we just call him Case like the tractor.
“I just had to chew on it, because I did not think you could name your child after a tractor, but the more you got the name said, the more I actually thought it was okay.” (https://bit.ly/32FGO2s)
When their next two sons followed closely together, the parents opted for two other tractor producers beginning with C, Claas and Cormick (apparently from McCormick), according to local media.
However, when a fourth son came along, they seemed to have run out of suitably-themed names and it reportedly took a while to christen the boy.
In the end, they learned about a Belgian company that produced a tractor called Clayson and they decided that the name suited their fourth child.
All four boys have a ‘normal’ middle name that also begins with C should they choose to ditch their tractor name later on.
According to local media, the four lads are called Case Christian, 8, Claas Christoff, 5, Cormick Constantin, 3, and little Clayson Cilas who is just seven months old.
Meanwhile, the couple said they do not plan to have more children, but if another baby were to come along, there would not be a problem as they have “carried out research and have some ideas in mind”.
