These pictures show a German couple getting married in face masks at a drive-in cinema while isolated wedding guests look on from the safety of their cars, reportedly beeping their horns in celebration.
The wedding was one of there carried out at the drive-in cinema in the city of Dusseldorf in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia on 5th May.
As the country starts lifting the lockdown introduced in March to prevent the spread of COVID-19, social distancing measures are still being respected by residents.
The first wedding of the day featured Fortuna Dusseldorf football fans Philip Scholz and Janine Miodunski who got married in face masks with their favourite team’s logo.
The couple tied the knot on a stage decorated in flowers while guests looked on from their cars, honking their horns in celebration.
Dusseldorf Mayor Thomas Geisel, separated from the bride and groom by a plastic window, officiated the ceremony, according to local media.
After the ceremony, the couple said the restricted wedding bash felt like “the new normal”.
The bride said: “There is no other way at the moment, so we made the best out of the situation today.”
Meanwhile, the head of the German disease control centre warned that there could be a second wave of COVID-19 infections, but that the country was well prepared to handle it.
