According to reports, the video was originally uploaded to Instagram accompanied with the caption: “Is it okay for a Nara City Hall employee to be like this?”

Local media said the platform jumper has been identified by the local authorities and “will face punishment”.

Following the video’s release, the city council confirmed that the man works for the Road and Construction Department and issued an apology for his actions, according to reports.

In a statement, the council said: “We apologise for causing concern to so many people over this exceedingly dangerous and totally impermissible act.”

The statement also mentioned that the official understands how his actions could have encouraged others to do the same and he has visited the train station with his supervisor to apologise to rail staff.

It is unclear whether the official will face further punishment.
