This touching footage shows a coronavirus patrol cop spotting a lone pedestrian with his aerial drone and lighting the way for the villager as he walks home in pitch-black darkness.

Officer Zhou, with Yucheng Police Station in Yuhuan City in East China’s Zhejiang Province, was doing routine patrols when he spotted the villager on 8th February.

Authorities are utilising drones to search large areas for stragglers or any individuals who should not be lingering outside their homes during the COVID-19 outbreak.

The cop said: “We do drone patrols every day.

“I was patrolling the roads that night when I saw a very faint light source moving beside the mountain, so I flew over.

“Northbound on Raocheng Road, I saw a pedestrian.

“He was about 2 kilometres away from the end of the road, and at least another 1 kilometre from the next village.

“It was pitch-black.”

Officer Zhou descended from 70 metres (230 feet) to around 20 metres (65 feet), hovering above the villager’s head as he lit the road ahead.

In the video, the pedestrian can be seen looking up and waving at the drone in an apparent gesture of thanks.

Officer Zhou followed the villager for about 1,500 feet until he reached a section of the road with street lights.

According to reports, each drone battery provides about 15 minutes of flight time.

Officer Zhou said: “When on duty, we each carry three batteries. By the time we use all three, our patrols are basically complete.”
