This is the heartwarming moment a US cop rushes to the home of a frantic mother whose baby is struggling to breath and calmly clears the infant’s airway while reassuring concerned loved ones.

Officer Cameron Maciejewski has been praised for his quick reactions and calm response while assisting a desperate mother whose three-week-old daughter had something lodged in her airway.

The incident was filmed by the officer’s dash-cam in the city of Sterling Heights in the US state of Michigan on 9th July.

In the video posted on Facebook by the Sterling Heights Police Department (SHPD) on 13th July, Officer Maciejewski is seen rushing to a home where a family is waiting.

As he pulls up outside the house, the frantic mother explains that there is something wrong with her baby and Officer Maciejewski says: “Calm down, let me see the baby.”

He checks the tot under the patrol car’s lights and says “(she’s) still blinking” before cradling the baby in one arm and lightly slapping her back.

Something appears to dislodge from the baby’s airway and the cop says: “Yep, there you go. (She’s) crying, (she’s) crying.”

Meanwhile, the sobbing mother falls to the ground in relief.

The baby was handed over to the Sterling Heights Fire Department and was taken to a nearby hospital for checks.

The SHPD footage was accompanied with the message: “Upon pulling up to the home, the officer was rushed by the family who were holding their three-week-old baby girl, who was not breathing.

“Ofc. Maciejewski calmly takes the baby in his arms and performs back thrusts in attempts to clear the baby’s airway. When doing so, the baby coughs up the obstruction and begins to cry.

“The baby was then turned over to the Sterling Heights Fire Department who transported the baby to the hospital for evaluation.

Officer Maciejewski said that his quick-thinking and ability to stay calm under pressure was due to his police training.

In an interview posted on social media by the SHPD, the hero cop said: “If I start freaking or if I can’t handle myself or handle my cool it just escalates everything for the family.”

The SHPD said on Facebook: “If it wasn’t for Ofc. Maciejewski’s quick, calm, lifesaving actions, the outcome of this incident could have been tragically different.

“Not only did the officer save the baby, but the officer did an outstanding job consoling the family.”
