This footage shows a pedestrian dodging a wild boar which charges straight at him and rampages around town headbutting cars before officers shoot the protected animal dead.

Footage from Pulandian District in the coastal city of Dalian, which is in China’s north-eastern province of Liaoning, shows the unsuspecting pedestrian jumping out the way as the animal dashes towards him on the pavement.

The video dated 17th November shows the wild boar (Sus scrofa), a protected species, wandering around near the Yujingwan Residential District, coming out of a car wash where employees reportedly hid away from it.

In the footage, the large adult boar also runs onto the street and headbutts the side of a moving car.

Local authorities sent to catch the animal, which belongs to a species under state protection, said they were forced to put it down.

The police are understood to have been given clearance by the municipal forestry bureau. They shot the boar dead before it could cause any more damage or harm local residents.

The authorities said several cars were rammed or bitten by the boar, which is believed to have wandered into the city from the nearby forests where it lives.

Reports said the animal was likely searching for food but became agitated by pedestrians and heavy traffic.
