A 64-year-old woman who was allegedly stabbed and burned by her abusive adult children has been rescued after concerned neighbours posted images of her shocking injuries on social media.

The woman lived in Central Seberang Perai District in the north-western Malaysian state of Penang with her 35-year-old daughter, 32-year-old son and his 28-year-old wife, all of them unemployed.

Although the unnamed mother claims to have sustained her injuries during a ‘fall’, concerned neighbours insisted on helping her. They filmed and photographed the injuries to her head and body and posted the images on social media.

Neighbours suspect that her children inflicted the injuries and asked the local authorities to intervene.

Police spokesman Nik Ros Azhan said that cops went round to the flat and took the woman to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital for treatment.

He added: “The victim claimed she sustained the injuries from a fall, and declined to comment on the suggestion she had been beaten up by her children.”

Azhan also claimed that the victim’s children have mental issues and said that her daughter-in-law has a physical disability.

He added: “When the money runs out, they will go around town begging.

“We believe financial issues and stress may have contributed to the family’s problem.”

According to the police spokesman, the Welfare Department will refer the victim and her two children for psychiatric tests.

Meanwhile, he confirmed that the woman’s injuries appear to be caused by dangerous weapons and possibly other means as she also has burn marks.

The investigation is ongoing.
