This driver’s car was so stuffed full of rubbish that cops have ordered him to clear it within a week or face criminal charges for dangerous driving.
Cops in the city of Essen in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia stopped the driver of the small red car on Friday, 21st January.
A police spokeswoman was quoted in German daily Bild as saying: “The reason was the unusual posture of the driver, who was sitting very close to the steering wheel.”
When the officers approached the car, they were stunned to find it was packed full to the brim with bags, packages and rubbish.
The small vehicle was so stuffed full of items that there was not even any free space under the seat or in the footwell, which the cops identified as a clear driving hazard.
The cops ordered the male driver, whose name and age they did not divulge, to clean his car within a week or face a criminal charge of dangerous driving.
The unnamed police spokeswoman said: “The driver reacted very insightfully. Our colleagues explained to him that objects lying in the footwell can quickly impede braking or clutching. This can slow down the braking distance, especially in a dangerous situation.”
The man has been ordered to present his cleared-out car at the local police station within the allotted timeframe to avoid facing the law.
The cops also reported him to the Road Traffic Office because they found that his vehicle was overdue an inspection.
