Hot-shot Austrian coppers are investigating after a prankster with poor taste ordered a cheeseburger menu as a prank and had it delivered to someone else.

The incident happened over the weekend in the town of Bruck an der Leitha in Lower Austria, which reportedly has a population of 7,988 souls, when an unknown person ordered a double cheeseburger menu worth a grand total of 25 EUR (22 GBP) but gave somebody else’s address, apparently as a bad joke.

The cheeseburger was promptly cooked up by the local burger company, together with the side order of chips, and dispatched at midday on Saturday.

But the person who it was delivered to, who was unnamed in local media reports, refused to accept it, saying: “We certainly didn’t order this.” They then refused to accept or pay for the order.

When the burger company called back the number for the person who had ordered it, they discovered the number was unreachable.

A police spokesman confirmed to local media that they were investigating the suspected ham burglar.

The name of the burger company and the manager were not revealed.
