This is the moment police are called to a woman’s home after celebratory balloons hanging from her window are mistaken for an SOS signal.

Authorities in the county of Kaiyang in south-western China’s Guizhou Province were notified of a resident in possible distress after neighbours looked out their window and spotted the letters SOS on an adjacent building.

Images taken by the neighbours show the letters spelt out using golden balloons on 28th December.

Policeman Xu Ping and his colleagues were dispatched to the multi-storey tower block, where the home in question was found to be on the 22nd floor.

Footage shows Officer Xu entering the female homeowner’s residence, only to learn that everything is fine and that she was in fact not in need of rescue.

The SOS wording, she explained, were balloons displaying the numbers 202.

The woman, who is a nursery school teacher, said she brought home four balloons of the number 2020 from her school’s New Year event.

However, the last 0 deflated so she took it down, leaving 202 on her window.

The teacher apologised for the concern caused and has since taken the balloons down.
