Cops have arrested a husband whose wife recorded this violent ordeal – in which he allegedly gave her three broken ribs – before sharing it online where it has been seen over 20 million times.

The viral video filmed on 20th May was shared online by the abused mum and shows the abused mum’s husband beating her up in front of their screaming two-year-old.

Authorities in the district of Chaonan in Shantou City in China’s southern Guangdong Province said they detained the husband following an investigation into the video, which has been trending on social media.

The social media clip shows the mum, who has not been named, setting up her mobile phone in her room when her husband storms in wearing only his pants.

The woman screams in terror and cries for help as her spouse proceeds to kick and punch her for more than 40 seconds in front of their crying toddler who is helpless to stop the violence.

Chaonan police said the woman was thought to be a local resident due her Chaoshan accent, referring to the cultural-linguistic region of eastern Guangdong – or Canton.

The authorities revealed the video itself was filmed in the couple’s rental home in the town of Gonghe in Jiangmen City in the same province where they work.

They said the wife has been hospitalised with three broken ribs in provincial capital Guangzhou, while the husband remains in questioning.

They did not say who was taking care of the couple’s son.
