Colombian cops have arrested this suspect after a three-year-old girl was raped and left in the street and is now fighting for her life in hospital.
The shocking incident took place in the rural municipality of Anapoima located in the department of Cundinamarca in central Colombia and Colonel Javier Aya, Commander of the Cundinamarca Police, told local newspaper Caracol they received a call in the early hours of the morning yesterday (Sunday).
National police officers went to the rural area of the San Antonio where they found the victim on a pavement.
She was taken to the nearest health care centre before being transferred to the Pedro Leon Alvarez Dias Hospital where she is recovering from serious injuries sustained in the attack, according to Caracol.
The police began searching the area and found the suspect, alias ‘Tete’ whose age has not been reported, in a nearby forest and he was arrested.
It was not revealed why police believe he was responsible for the crime.
The suspect has been placed at the disposition of a judge and accused of raping a child under the age of 14.
According to figures on child abuse from the Legal Medicine Institute of Colombia, Cundinamarca is among the four departments with the highest figures of abuse in the country, with 33 boys and 151 girls having been abused in the department this year.
The investigation is ongoing.
