Cops And Robbers In High Speed Shootout On Brazilian Motorway

This is the moment cops and robbers take part in a high-speed shootout on a Brazilian motorway.

The gunfight took place on the Avenida Brasil expressway in the neighbourhood of Penha in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro in south-eastern Brazil at around 10pm on 14th January.

Officers from the 22nd Battalion (Mare) of the Military Police were patrolling the neighbourhood when they noticed the occupants of a car acting suspiciously.

The police ordered the car driver to stop and pull over, however, the suspect sped from the scene and cops gave chase.

During the high-speed car chase, occupants in both vehicles were filmed shooting at each other by a nearby motorist.

In the footage, the suspects are seen driving off the motorway while a cop car is in hot pursuit with its lights flashing.

The police apparently shoot at the suspects who then return fire, and loud bangs fill the air like fireworks.

The filming motorist says: “Lots of shots, lots of shots!”

Nearby road users slow down on the motorway before feeling safe to put their foot down and put as much distance between them and the gunshots as possible.

According to reports, the suspects were driving a stolen vehicle and managed to escape.

The police probe continues.
